Intersectionality: Infinite Operations

Equation in black, and red vectors labelled

Infinite Operations, 14″x11″, ink on paper, 2012

This is one in a series of six monoprints.  The full series is shown in my Intersectionality exhibit catalogue.

Each print illustrates its title: an equation or concept from a set-theory textbook (Słupecki, J. and L. Borkowski. Elements of Mathematical Logic and Set Theory. Pergamon Press (Polish Scientific Publishers), 1967.)

The limited red and black palette recalls single-colour printing, once common in math textbooks.

Each mathematical concept is mirrored by a related sociopolitical phrase from Nancy Ehrenreich’s article “Subordination and symbiosis: mechanisms of mutual support between subordinating systems”, UMCK Law Review 71:2 (2003).
